Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Essay Series
The "Fray Bartolomé De Las Casas Essay Series" is dedicated to the Spanish bishop and writer who was the first champion of the rights of the indigenous people in the Americas. The North American Educational Initiatives Foundation commissioned the renowned Aristotle authority Professor Michael Pakaluk, presently teaching at The Catholic University of America, to write a series of essays on the subject of human dignity, friendship, leadership, and solidarity with frequent reference to natural law, our classical heritage, and Catholic social doctrine.
The essay series is available for free distribution. The foundation asks that the essays and any quotations be properly attributed to our sponsorship.
Michael Pakaluk received his Ph.D. in philosophy at Harvard University, where he studied philosophical logic with W. V. Quine, Burton Dreben, and Warren Goldfarb, philosophy of science with Hilary Putnam, and political philosophy with John Rawls. Rawls directed his dissertation, "Aristotle's Theory of Friendship," and Sarah Broadie (then at Yale University) also served on the thesis committee.
